Do You Really Need An About Page?

Yes, a million times yes. Here’s why.

Most people who stalk, skim, or scroll your website are looking for your about page. Why? Because they want to know who you are, what you stand for, and if you’re their kind of person. Are you an extreme extrovert who can find a friend in a parking lot? Could caffeine be your middle name because you can’t live without it?

This is where they’re deciding if they’re gonna slide into your DMs or bounce.

They’re not just interested in your services—they want to know the real you, weird shit and all. They want to see if they can see themselves working with you, laughing at childhood stories with you, or at least not wanting to run for the hills when your name pops up.

Like on my about page, it doesn’t just say “Oh hey, I’m a copywriter.” I talk about how I can’t walk in heels (hush, lol) and how I side-eye people who eat canned cherries (why are they even a thing—so gross). These quirks might seem random, but they show people that I’m a human they can relate to. And when people feel connected to you, they’re more likely to stay and say, “Okay, I like this person, they get it.”

Your about page isn’t just where you talk about what you do. It’s where you talk about who you are, why you do what you do, and why they’ll love working with you. This isn’t the page you forget, or don’t put much thought into; it’s the one that makes people say, “I need this person, now.”

So, don’t sleep on your about page—go all in.

6 Reasons Why Your About Page is a Must-Have

1. Prove You’re Worth It

With randos popping up every day (you know the ones, the gurus who can’t even spell guru), it’s hard to trust people. And with so many options, people need to know they’re making the right choice. This is where you talk about what you know best, why you love doing it, and why you’re the one who can help them.

You can add reviews from clients, before and after examples of your work, or success stories to show people they can trust you (be specific— don’t leave out client names, and even add their pictures to make it feel personal). People are nosy (in the best way) and love seeing who you really are. When you show who you are, it feels real and relatable—because no one wants to work with someone they know nothing about.

2. Show What You Stand For

What do you care about? What makes you tick? Your about page is where you share your mission and values. These days, people want to know what you stand for, so showing your values can really set you apart.

It doesn’t matter if you’re all about clean living (toxic-free products, recycling, the whole nine), volunteering in your community, or making homemade sourdough bread (how does this relate to values), don’t hold back. It’s not just about you; it’s about connecting with people who feel the same way. When people see that you care about more than just making money, they’re more likely to want to work with you.

3. Answer “Why Should I Care?”

People are busy, and they won’t hang around if they don’t see what’s in it for them. Your about page is a good place to answer the question: “Why should I care?”

Share how your services can actually help them out. Here’s where you connect your story and values to the real benefits your clients get. If they can see the value in what you bring, they’ll want to see what you’re all about.

4. Show Off Your Personality

There are millions of websites on the internet, and yours needs to catch attention. Don’t miss showing off what makes you different—if you’re sassy, weird, or just plain funny, don’t be shy.

Let your real self come out! Use some humor, share a funny story, or throw in a bit of sass to keep things interesting. This helps people remember you and feel like they know you before they even say hi. People love connecting with other people, not just brands, so show them why you’re it!

5. SEO Benefits (It Really Matters)

The big three: S.E.O.—yeppers, search engine optimization. About pages often get overlooked when it comes to ranking for SEO, but they can actually perform well.

Google loves content, and a well-written about page with the right keywords can help people find you more easily. Not only does this increase your visibility in search results, but it also gives people insight into who you are and what you stand for. So, make the most of it by naturally adding your keywords—share who you are while getting more eyes on your website.

6. Make Clients Feel Seen and Heard

Your website really has a big job to do. Think about it: someone finds you on social media, goes to your website, and what do they want to know? They want to see if they can trust you and if you’re the right person. Your about page is helping them figure that out.

It helps them go from maybe to “Yes, I’m in!” After they read your about page, they should feel like they know more about you and be encouraged to actually take some action—look at your services, sign up for your newsletter, or actually contact you—need some extra help with your CTAs, read this blog.

Hot tip: Your about page is not a set it and forget it kind of page. As you change, so should it. It should always be up to date so it reflects who you are now, and what you stand for.

Your about page is not negotiable, ever. It’s not one of those pages that you can skip over and say “Nah, I don’t need that.” If you want people to really connect with you, give them a look into who you are and exactly what you’re about.
